Welcome. I am a Portuguese-speaking, Angolan-born freelance photojournalist based in Namibia. Through the years I have extensively documented Namibia, from its magnificent landscapes and people, to its independence process and boundless sunshine in an array of abstract light imagery. More recently I have returned to Angola to record a country picking up the pieces in the aftermath of one of Africa’s longest civil wars. My current Angola Project documents the emergence of a nation in its journey from war and destruction to peace, reconciliation, forgiveness and democracy.
Lightworks is a digital photographic exhibition held at the National Arts Gallery of Namibia in Windhoek and introduces my twelve year-old daughter Gina. Since age four Gina has been watching me and has developed a stunningly sharp photographic eye. Her knack to identify images even before she understood f-stops and camera technique, coupled with the advent of digital photography, has turned her into a participant of the digital revolution and a powerful observer of life’s details. It is indeed a different world where the ease, immediacy and accessibility of digital photography augments individual growth and becomes a vehicle of growth and consciousness.
Studio 77 is my latest business venture with colleague photographer and friend Hans Rack. Hans is a specialist wildlife, landscape and architecture photographer. Combined with my passion to photograph people and abstracts, our studio encompasses a wide spectrum of photographic mediums and fields.
